What is a straight tuck end box?

A straight tuck end box is a folding carton made from one sheet of board. Four panels wrap around the product and a glue flap joins the last panel to the first. Each end closes with a lid that carries a tuck flap, plus two small dust flaps that fold in first to keep the end square and keep dust out.

In a straight tuck end, the top lid and the bottom lid are both hinged on the back panel. Both ends tuck in towards the front, so the front panel stays clean from top to bottom with no flap edges showing. That is why designers choose it for window cartons, full-bleed front artwork and premium retail boxes. If you want the version where the two lids hinge on opposite panels, use the reverse tuck end box template.

How this tuck end box dieline is sized

You enter the inside size: the space your product needs. Board has thickness, so each panel is drawn to the middle of the board at the inside size plus one board thickness. With 350 gsm carton board (about 0.5 mm), a 90 × 60 × 180 mm box gets panels of 90.5, 60.5 and 180.5 mm.

The tuck flap depth is worked out from the box width (about 45% of it, between 10 and 30 mm) and is kept shorter than the box height, so it never collides on shallow cartons. Dust flaps are sized from the length and width, and the glue flap is about 30% of the smaller panel, between 8 and 20 mm. Finger notches on the front and rounded tuck corners are on by default, and you can switch both off. You can also set your own glue flap and tuck depth under the advanced options.

Good uses for a tuck end box

Cosmetic and skincare cartons, soap boxes, candle boxes, tea and spice boxes, small electronics and accessories, and any retail product box that needs a clean front face. For heavier products, use a stiffer board or add a mycelium insert to hold the product in place and protect it.

Artwork tips

The top and bottom lids show whenever the box is opened, so carry the brand onto them. Keep text at least 3 mm away from folds and cuts, run backgrounds into the bleed, and remember that the glue flap sits behind the last side panel, so anything printed on it is hidden.

FAQ

Tuck end box template: questions, answered

What is the difference between a tuck end box and a tuck box?

They are the same thing. “Tuck box” and “tuck end box” both describe a carton whose ends close with a tuck flap. This page makes the straight tuck end version, where both lids hinge on the back panel.

Do I enter the inside or the outside size?

Enter the inside size, the space the product needs. The generator adds the board-thickness allowance to every panel and shows the approximate outside size next to the preview.

Which board should I use for a tuck end box?

Folding carton board of 300 to 400 gsm (about 0.4 to 0.6 mm) suits most retail tuck end boxes. For heavier products, choose E-flute corrugated board. Pick the board in the tool so the fold allowances match.

Can I add a window to a straight tuck end box?

Yes. Download the SVG or PDF and draw the window on the front panel in Illustrator or Inkscape. The straight tuck end is a good choice for windows because no flap edges cross the front.

Can I download the tuck end box template as a PDF?

Yes. The PDF is a vector file at true scale with a 100 mm scale-check bar. You can also download an SVG for editing and a DXF with separate cut and fold layers.
